Highlight the many triumphs and historical milestones of the 1960s and the Civil Rights movement with this new web site from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Formed in partnership with regional communications carrier BellSouth Corp., this interactive repository features a number of useful resources for teaching and learning. Students can use the site’s Oral History Project to sift through a diverse collection of more than 400 videos and personal stories documenting the Civil Rights movement through the words and memories of the people whose voices helped alter the course of history. The site also contains an online assessment to help test students’ knowledge of history; a monthly calendar documenting significant dates and holidays; archival information for research, including historical manuscripts and news clippings; membership information; and a free Civil Rights curriculum for educators. Can’t find what you’re looking for? The site also has a list of education links for additional research, planning, and study.
