The Safe Schools/Healthy Students program provides $42 million to help school districts implement integrated, comprehensive community-wide plans that aim to create safe and drug-free schools and promote prosocial skills and healthy childhood development in youth. Plans must focus on activities curricula, programs, or services that address: safe school environment; alcohol and other drugs and violence prevention and early intervention programs; school and community mental health preventive and treatment intervention services; early childhood psychosocial and emotional development programs; supporting and connecting schools and communities; and safe school policies. The department plans to make 20 awards averaging $2 million each.
