Internet database helps students choose a college that meets their needs

Help your students find a college that’s right for them with College Opportunities On-Line (COOL), a web site from the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) that provides a direct link to nearly 7,000 colleges and universities in the country. For large universities, small liberal-arts colleges, specialized schools, community colleges, career or technical colleges, and trade schools alike, COOL offers information about enrollment, awards and degrees conferred, cost (as of the 2003-04 school year), financial aid, accreditation, and campus crime statistics. And, for the first time, it includes graduation rates based on full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students; the rates are broken down by gender and race. You can search for a college based on its location, program, or degree offerings either alone or in combination. The search feature also allows you to look only at the colleges of your choice.
