Through the its National Search for Excellence campaign, the KnowledgeWorks Foundation is acknowledging and celebrating creative school designs that meet the needs of the 21st century and can serve as examples for future school planning and design. Specifically, the foundation seeks schools that reflect the emerging trend of designing schools that serve as centers of community–schools that welcome community use and benefit from community resources that support student and community success. Selected schools will join the foundation’s “Schools as Centers of Community Honor Society,” and information about them will be exhibited as part of a new design gallery hosted by the foundation on its web site. One school among these chosen schools will be selected to receive the foundation’s “Award for Excellence” and a $5,000 grant.
