Sponsored by the Best Buy Children’s Foundation and Baylor University, the E3 (Explore, Experience, Expand) Electronic Field Trips series streams electronic video broadcasts from the nation’s top museums and historical landmarks to students in their classrooms. This year’s schedule includes online visits to Grand Canyon National Park, the Houston Space Center, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. Each field trip, to be held on specific dates throughout the school year, is accompanied by related online curricula meeting national teaching standards. The different electronic tours cut across several academic disciplines, touching on science, math, history, government, and literature. The first field trip of the 2004-05 school year, “Into the Canyon,” takes place Nov. 8; if you happen to miss a field trip or you want to see places the series has visited in the past, many of the group’s previous trips are archived for review at http://ali.apple.com/ali_sites/ali/exhibits/1000754. Registration for the 2004-05 series opened this summer.
