Texas district takes dramatic step to bridge digital divide

The Valley Morning Star of Harlingen, Texas, reports that the Los Fresnos school district plans to give away 1,000 refurbished computers to needy housholds in the effort to bridge the local digital divide. Believing all students must be prepared for the workforce of the future, superintendent Sylvia Atkinson has also led the drive to create a technology academy for high school students, better communication with stakeholders through newsletters and the web, and more technology integration in the curriculum.
