Small invention could replace massive exercise equipment

The New York Times reports that a Northeastern University engineer has created a portable device that people might be able strap onto their injured knees to facilitate rehabilitation without having to alter their daily lifestyles. The device uses computer controlled electric charges to turn a special fluid viscous and create resistance that strengthens the knee. One engineer calls it a “weight-lifting machine you can slap on your leg.”
