The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a hacker was recently able to penetrate a UC Berkeley computer, putting Social Security numbers and other key data for 600,000 Californians at risk. The FBI is investigating the break-in, which took place on Aug. 1 and was reported to the state on Sept. 21.
