The Biotechnology Institute, the national organization dedicated to biotechnology education, has partnered with Genzyme Corp. and Invitrogen Corp. to support and encourage teachers’ efforts to introduce biotechnology into high school classrooms. The National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Award recognizes excellence among the participants in the Institute’s Teacher-Leader Program who have developed innovative methods for integrating biotechnology into their high school science curriculum and who serve as a resource to their peers. The first-place winner receives a cash prize of $10,000; second- and third-place winners receive cash awards of $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.
