The Foreign Language Assistance Program provides grants to SEAs for innovative model programs providing for the establishment, improvement, or expansion of foreign language study for elementary and secondary school students. An SEA that receives a grant under this program must use the funds to support programs that promote systemic approaches to improving foreign language learning in the state. ED expects to make 16 awards ranging from $100,000 to $150,000 each. Grant recipients are expected to share at least half the cost of projects. (Important note: Those applying for this grant must submit a Notice of Intent to Apply no later than Feb. 28, 2005.)
