The U.S. Department of Education has announced a technology grant program to fund research on the effectiveness and implementation of technologies for children with disabilities. The funds will support one cooperative agreement for a center to conduct a systematic program of research on the use of electronic text to advance the principles of universal design (i.e., design of products that will be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, with minimal need for additional adaptations and accommodations). The research should be related to the development of curriculum and instructional materials that are accessible to all students with disabilities, to improve access to and progress in the general curriculum for students with disabilities.
