Bilingual students keep a community in touch with its schools

The Seattle Times reports on a program at a local elementary school called the “Newscasters Club.” Fifteen bilingual students participate in the program, translating the school newsletter on for non-English speaking members of the community. The children record these newscasts in Hmong and Spanish and distribute tapes within the community, giving large numbers of parents their only access to information about the school.
