Federal funding woes could spell end of Mich. laptop program

Writing in the Detroit Free Press, columnist Mike Wendland examines the potential end of a major sixth-grade laptop initiative in Michigan. A big reduction in federal funding has forced Gov. Jennifer Granholm to recommend the program be discontinued, even though educators across the state have applauded it. Last year, more than 2,400 wireless HP laptops were distributed to sixth-graders in Michigan.
