Eight-hour battery life a big goal for laptop vendors, chip-makers

cNet’s News.com reports that several vendors are hard at work to develop a super-light notebook computer that can run on battery power for a full eight hours before needing to be recharged. This extended battery life, expected to be in place by 2008, could greatly increase demand for notebooks. Intel and other chipmakers are eager to make this happen, since the chips in notebook systems tend to sell at a higher price.
