The New York Times reports that unlike in the past, today’s college students are applying to several colleges in their quest to gain acceptance to elite institutions. A generation or so ago, most high school seniors applied to anywhere from three to five colleges. Because of the escalating anxiety over admissions, fueled in part by admissions guides, rankings, and other factors many of today’s high school seniors are applying to 10-12 schools, with some exceeding this total.
