The Chicago Tribune reports that officials in almost four dozen Illinois schools can now use a computerized system to check whether school visitors are registered sex offenders. With a swipe of a driver’s license, the system can tap into a database of registered offenders in 47 states–or check for individuals with restraining orders filed against them. If the person is approved for entry, they receive a pass with an ID picture. If they are not, the police and school officials are then automatically notified.
