The Associated Press reports that Donald Purdy, Jr., acting director of the Homeland Security department’s Cyber Security Division, is under close scrutiny. At question is his status as a contract employee for Carnegie Mellon University earning over $577,000 per year. Carnegie Mellon does extensive business with the federal office Purdy manages. Purdy is “on loan” from the federal government to the university, which pays almost all of his annual salary. In comparison, secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff makes $175,000 annually.
