(Atlanta, Ga.–July 27)–Socorro I.S.D. in El Paso, one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas, has purchased 250 Promethean Activboards for five schools as the initial step toward a district-wide interactive whiteboard (IWB) implementation.

“After careful analysis, we selected Promethean Activboards based on pricing, durability, warranty, instructional resources depth and ability to integrate with the district’s initiatives. Promethean further added value by its willingness to align with the district’s strategic goals and implementation plans,” said Manuel Verduzco, Socorro I.S.D. executive director for technology services.

“We had previously piloted other IWBs but with minimal acceptance and results. With the Promethean boards, not only did the teachers quickly become engaged, but our students were captivated,” said Jenifer Bittner, Socorro I.SD. coordinator for instructional services. “In this short time, we are starting to see positive results in those Promethean board classrooms from the teachers, students and even parents. We are very pleased with their functionality, ease of use and durability,” she added.

The 250 78-inch Promethean Activboards were installed over the June school break to minimize teaching disruption and will be functioning when classes resume in July in the year-round district. The boards were installed in four new schools, which serve K-8 classes and in Socorro I.S.D.’s new early college high school.

The 2,700-classroom Socorro I.S.D. has 17 elementary schools, seven middle schools, four high schools, six Pre-K-8 campuses, one alternative school and a community education program. The Student Activities Complex includes a 13,000-seat stadium and the adjacent Aquatic Center, also open throughout the year, has indoor and outdoor pools.

Promethean’s Activboard is designed specifically to withstand the rigors of classroom use and humid environments. The whiteboard’s anti-glare, electromagnetic surface is extremely precise and durable. Teachers and students interact with lessons on the Activboard using Promethean’s battery-free Activpen.

The Activboard comes with Promethean’s award-winning lesson development software, Activstudio, which includes exclusive tools and a searchable library of resources. In addition to the content library resources, Promethean users also have free access to thousands of ready-made flipchart lessons aligned to state education standards in a searchable database that can be queried by state, subject area, grade level and keyword at www.prometheanplanet.com.

For primary grades, Promethean also offers Activprimary, the leading whiteboard software designed specifically for use in primary schools and kindergarten. Activprimary’s unique interface has large, easy-to-use tools located at the bottom of the screen, allowing young learners to more easily interact with activities on the Activboard. Special teacher tools on the top of the screen and a huge resource library make lesson development quick, easy and fun.
