News.com reports that popular social networking sites, notably MySpace.com, are facing legislative crackdowns for failing to protect minors from malign influences, particularly sexual predators. Illinois Rep. Mark Kirk says: “MySpace.com has been a center of drug activity, of gang activity, and of internet predators … Isn’t it entirely appropriate that the state get involved?” One bill introduced would restrict access in schools and libraries to sites that allow users to create personal pages.
