News.com reports that popular social networking sites, notably MySpace.com, are facing legislative crackdowns for failing to protect minors from malign influences, particularly sexual predators. Illinois Rep. Mark Kirk says: “MySpace.com has been a center of drug activity, of gang activity, and of internet predators … Isn’t it entirely appropriate that the state get involved?” One bill introduced would restrict access in schools and libraries to sites that allow users to create personal pages. Social networking sites have come under increasing pressure from Congress of late, as members hope to appeal to voters in the upcoming November elections…
