USA Today reports that a group concerned about American students’ ability to compete in the global economy has proposed raising teacher salaries by 20 percent immediately and up to 50 percent in “the foreseeable future.” The initiative, supported by the College Board’s Center for Innovative Thought, is intended retain high-quality veteran teachers and entice younger teaching candidates into the classroom, the paper said.
