The New York Times reports that a contentious school election in Kansas has once again put science and religion at odds. After a conservative Republican majority on the State Board of Education adopted rules containing one of the broadest challenges to Darwin’s theory of evolution, moderates from both parties are launching a counterattack. In the past several years, battles over the theory of evolution have cropped up between the scientific community and intelligent design supporters who maintain that nature cannot totally explain life’s origin and complexity. Because of this climate, the Kansas elections I being watched very carefully by both sides as moderates try to retake the power and switch curriculum back to what they term “conventional science.” … (Note: This site has free registration.)
