The U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has released its annual report on the condition and progress of education in the United States. Available online, “The Condition of Education 2006” includes 50 indicators in five main areas: (1) participation in education, which reports trends in enrollment across all levels of education; (2) learner outcomes, which examines student achievement and other outcomes of education; (3) student effort and educational progress, which reports on the progress students make through the education system; (4) elementary and secondary education contexts, which measures the context of learning in elementary and secondary education; and (5) postsecondary education contexts, which examines features of postsecondary education. The resource also features a special analysis on U.S. student performance on international assessments of education achievement. Plus, a fully searchable tables and figures section allows users to compare the 2006 report with past reports. Users also can search for and compare demographic and other key statistics on all of the nation’s public and private educational institutions and libraries.
