Silver Spring, MD (September 7, 2006) – Educators in Jefferson County Schools and Milwaukee Public Schools will be helping to improve student performance on high-stakes state achievement exams this school year by using formative assessment solutions developed by ThinkLink Learning, a business unit of Discovery Education. ThinkLink is a pioneer in the development of formative assessment content and services, which measure student progress toward meeting state standards for reading/language arts, math, science, and social studies.

ThinkLink’s assessment solutions, which are available in both online and paper formats, enable educators to predict each student’s mastery, proficiency and adequate yearly progress for every skill in every grade – a critical step in monitoring student progress toward state-mandated education goals. ThinkLink solutions also help teachers increase their effectiveness by quickly providing multiple sources of data about students’ strengths and weaknesses so they can adjust classroom instruction to meet each student’s needs throughout the year.

This is the second year teachers in Jefferson County Schools will be using ThinkLink services in their classrooms. “We are pleased to continue using the ThinkLink Predictive Assessment Series,” says Erica Thompson, a testing specialist with Jefferson County Schools. “Our teachers find the reports very easy to read and very useful instructionally.” Schools in 20 states across the nation use ThinkLink assessment services, which have been proven to predict student performance on high-stakes achievement exams with up to 90 percent accuracy.

“Producing a report card once a year doesn’t change anything. It’s quite another thing to use an ongoing process to individualized instruction,” said Jackie Shrago, Senior Vice President of Educational Assessment for Discovery Education. “We are looking forward to helping teachers in Jefferson County Schools and Milwaukee public schools use this great new technology to guide their curriculum to improve student performance.”
