El Segundo, Calif. and Dallas, Texas–October 9, 2006–Today, at EDUCAUSE 2006, Accordent Technologies, a leading provider of rich media content creation and management solutions, is demonstrating why more than 450 educational institutions rely on Accordent solutions to create and integrate dynamic, rich media content with key distance learning, certification and subscription initiatives.

Accordent will showcase the latest versions of its media communications platform including the latest lecture capture devices as well as new support for education-specific podcasting, automated lecture scheduling and advanced media management capabilities, including content search, user authentication and tracking as well as testing and certification.

“With the growing popularity of online course content and lecture podcasts, the education community is now demanding ways to manage, search and monetize an increasingly unwieldy library of rich media assets,” said Mike Newman, Accordent CEO. “While there are other solutions that can capture events, only Accordent provides a single, seamless solution that extends well beyond event capture and publishing for an improved and expanded learning experience that results in greater student success.”

Accordent Capture Station Enables Easy, All-In-One Course Material Creation

Accordent will showcase its Capture station, an all-in-one hardware and software capture device–running on the latest IBM/Lenovo hardware with three year onsite warranty–that enables teachers of any technical level to create compelling rich media course materials. These materials can include audio and video, synchronized with images captured from any VGA-enabled device, including laptops, document cameras, projectors and electronic white boards and can be published live over the Internet, archived on a local (or external) network or burned onto a CDROM. Included on the Accordent Capture Station is the latest version of Accordent’s presentation editing tool, PresenterPLUS, which supports all major streaming media and image formats–including Real and Windows–and includes powerful preview, editing and image conversion features for precise content editing.

“With online students demanding a higher quality video presentation, we investigated products that would automate the process of building Web-based presentations that included video and instructor visuals,” said Peggy Kane, Accordent customer and senior instructional technologist at Lehigh University. “Accordent was the only solution that provided Lehigh with powerful post-production capabilities and the ability to continue supporting the Real platform. We’re currently using the solution to effectively and efficiently support all of our online courses in the area of regulatory affairs and plan to increase the number of courses being offered using Accordent in the very near future.”

New Podcasting Feature Delivers Expanded Course Material Distribution

Among the most exciting developments from Accordent to be seen at EDUCAUSE 2006 is a new podcasting feature. Now, presenters need only to check a box to create a podcast of their live or on-demand online presentation which can be archived for review, automatically published to an online portal, or made available via an RSS feed. Now Accordent Capture Station and PresenterPLUS users can deliver class materials that can be downloaded to devices beyond the desktop, such as to Apple’s iPod and to Samsung’s and Creative’s MP3 players.

New Media Management Capabilities for Education

Accordent will demonstrate several additional key features specifically designed for educational institutions, including a new centralized, automated event-scheduling feature that enables course administrators to plan semesters in advance and schedule lecture capture that takes into account blackout dates associated with exam periods and holidays. Other features that will be showcased at EDUCAUSE 2006 include user authentication and tracking to ensure students only access the course materials relevant to their subjects, as well as testing and certification. Accordent will also demonstrate how its solutions integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure investments, such as enabling non-technical users to publish video and audio content directly into the Blackboard Learning Management System, an online course management system adopted by more than 50 percent of colleges based in the United States.

“Our platform’s open system design and advanced media management capabilities enable universities to maximize the value of their rich media assets at the same time as leveraging their existing infrastructure investments in a seamless, secure and cost-effective way,” said Newman.
