PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 10, 2006–HP today announced the appointment of industry veteran Joel Coombs as director of education, responsible for driving educational programs, products, partners and go to market activities for the company. Coombs joins HP with 15 years of industry experience in the public market segment. He most recently served as senior director of education for Gateway, and previously as a general manager with Dell in the public sector, where he was instrumental in driving sales and market share in the public market for both companies. “I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to drive HP’s leadership and momentum in the education sector,” said Coombs. “I look forward to helping the company sharpen its strategic focus and continue to grow share in this sector of the market.” In his new role at HP, Coombs will develop and implement strategic business planning and marketing programs for driving demand across HP’s K-12 and higher education business in all geographies, including targeted alliances with key industry partners, sales data analysis, business development and key customer relations.
