MINNEAPOLISOctober 24, 2006PLATO Learning, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTR), a leading provider of Kadult computer-based and e-learning solutions, is pleased to announce that Lafourche Parish Public Schools and St. James Parish Schools (Louisiana) have selected the PLATO Learning Environment™ (PLE™) for their computer-based assessment and instruction. Together, the agreements totaled more than $900,000. The PLATO Learning Environment, released in June 2006 and licensed on a subscription basis via an Internet application service provider (ASP), integrates key aspects of the educational processmanaging and delivering online courses and instructional content, assessing student progress and prescribing individualized instruction, managing standards, and reporting and analyzing data.

“The primary reason we chose to migrate to the ASP delivered PLE is to shift the support burden from our Parish to PLATO Learning. We now have the use of PLATO Learning managed centrally by one person instead of having multiple platforms and multiple support staff at each school site dedicated to PLATO Learning,” said Linda Dangerfield, special education supervisor, Lafourche Parish Public Schools.

The PLATO Learning Environment unites all of the PLATO Learning Solutions used by the Parishes in one cohesive system that follows the PLATO® Student Achievement Model: Assess, Align, Instruct, Evaluate. First, the Parishes Assess all students through the use of PLATO® Assessment. The Parishes Align instructional resources to their textbooks, Louisiana content standards, and the Louisiana comprehensive curriculum using PLATO& Correlations available with PLE. Teachers then Instruct using individual learning paths prescribed through PLATO&Test Packs with Prescriptions. Finally, parents, teachers, schools, and districts Evaluate success by monitoring progress through the reporting features of the PLATO Learning Environment.

Dr. P. Edward Cancienne, superintendent, St. James Parish added, “The best part of the PLATO Learning Environment is the individualization available. The addition of Test Packs to the PLATO Learning Environment allows us to prescribe individual learning paths from assessment results. We can now move from teaching to the group to teaching to the individual student. With ASP delivery, the tool also allows our students to take courses and master grade-level materials online.”

Both the LaFourche Parish and St. James Parish agreements include subscription to Comprehensive K8 and PLATO® Enhanced Secondary Intervention Libraries, PLATO Test Packs with Prescriptions, textbook correlations, and professional development.

“Lafourche and St. James Parishes have been valued clients of PLATO Learning for many years,” said Mike Morache, PLATO Learning President and CEO. “We are excited that they are among the first to adopt the new PLATO Learning Environment and the instructional solutions delivered on the management system. Both Parishes have innovative leaders who search out the newest technologies that will make their educational programs more efficient and effective, and we know they will fully support the implementation. We look forward to continuing this successful relationship.”
