Dallas, Texas (Nov. 8, 2006)–States, regional centers and districts across the United States are signing on to become users of Discovery Education One Place, an innovative service that offers easy, convenient access to online teaching resources through a single entry point. One Place, which launched this fall, is also attracting new partnerships with leading K-12 online service providers that will give access to their educational resources on the system.

Major schools districts that have subscribed to One Place include Texas Education Service Center Region XI, Palm Beach County School District in Florida and Fontana Unified School District in California. Alabama Public Television has also signed up for One Place and will offer it on its online digital resource library, APTPLUS, a service available at no cost to every K-12 public, private and faith-based schools and homeschoolers in Alabama, and schools of education at every college and university across the state. Other school districts that have chosen One Place include: Sarasota County School District (FL), Evanston-Skokie Community Consolidated School District 65 (IL), Rockford Public School District (MI) and Spokane School District 81 (WA).

“Discovery Education One Place is a wonderful solution that provides an easy and efficient way for educators to take advantage of all the different educational resources available online,” said Ken Brown, Executive Director, Technology & Information Services, Spokane School District 81. “Our school district is looking forward to using One Place to enhance access to interactive content that will improve the classroom experience.”

Discovery Education continues to add to its list of leading K-12 online service providers that offer educators and administrators a rich array of educational resources. The newest partner is Thomson Gale, a world leader in e-research and educational publishing for libraries. This organization joins the nation’s educational online service providers that are already integrated with One Place such as Discovery Education unitedstreaming, Discovery Education Health Connection, Discovery Education Science Connection, Tek Data Systems, Medianet/Dymaxion Research, Facts on File News Services, World Book, Atomic Learning and Maps101.com. Licensees can also add other online services of their own choosing. In addition, One Place includes pre-loaded, high-quality staff development digital content that schools, districts and regional centers can use as the basis for a professional development library. Districts and teachers can also take advantage of the simple way that One Place allows them to share locally licensed or created content such as lesson plans, Power Point Presentations and audio or video files.

“Through Discovery Education One Place, we are responding to educators who say they have become overwhelmed by all the passwords they have to memorize to tap into the online educational resources they need for their lesson plans,” said Ron Reed, Executive Vice President, School Services, Discovery Education. “This resourceful service provides a gateway to rich educational content that can be localized to fit any school’s needs. With One Place, educators need only one password. In addition, they can do a federated search of all their digital subscription products, free websites and local content.”
