COLUMBUS, Ohio–A question recently posed to the 10,000 superintendents who subscribe to SRA/McGraw-Hill’s national e-newsletter, Superintendent Resource AdvisorSM, found that the majority of superintendents feel they have adequate security measures in place following a year of deadly school violence.
Superintendent Resource AdvisorSM publishes relevant news and resources, trends and statistics, and tips for superintendents. It also includes an interview with a selected superintendent offering personal thoughts, advice, and achievements, and a survey question regarding various educational concerns.
“We appreciate superintendents responding to this poll,” said Bob Englert, editor of the publication. “Combining all of their thoughts and expertise will help us forge a united front in improving today’s education standards.”
The question, “Do you feel your schools have adequate security measures in place?” was asked, and 71% of respondents reported in the affirmative while 29% concluded that their measures weren’t in place.
Following a rash of fatal school shootings, President Bush recently held a conference on school safety to highlight best practices for making schools safe, to share lessons learned from prior incidents of school violence, and to bring together resources and experts on how to make schools safer and help communities and families recover from school tragedies.
