The Houston Chronicle reports that the Katy Independent School District has dedicated a page on its web site to combating rumors. During the bond elections earlier this year, a rumor that the district was importing Italian flooring for one school spread like wildfire. Increasingly, parents and taxpayers, with the aid of electronic means, seem to be spreading gossip at a record pace. To combat this, Katy and a growing number of districts and colleges are setting up these gossip-fighting pages as they are inexpensive to maintain and useful for debunking myths. However, some believe that posting the rumors for all to see may give them credibility.
