Boulder, CO–January 9, 2007–Digital Directions International, Inc. (DDI) has received significant funding from the Calvert Social Investment Fund for its highly acclaimed HELP with English Language Proficiency (HELP) Program. Funding will enable DDI to expand HELP to the elementary grades. The Calvert Social Investment Fund is a socially responsible mutual fund company with an emphasis on rigorous fundamental research to uncover companies strongly positioned for long-term success. An initial pilot study has found the HELP Program to be an extremely effective supplementary curriculum in increasing English Language Learners’ (ELLs) math ability.
John Ramo, M.Ed., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DDI, said, “Calvert is the leader in socially responsible mutual fund companies. Their investment in DDI allows us to fast forward our product expansion plans. This is great news not only for DDI but more importantly for the thousands of ELL students in our schools across the country.”
The HELP Program is designed to help middle and high school students learn math skills and content. It is particularly well suited for the large and growing Hispanic student population. School districts that incorporate HELP into their curriculum have seen demonstrated improvements in mathematics and have discovered that students really love learning with the program. Additionally, HELP can be accessed in the home, which allows non-English speaking parents to participate more fully in their child’s learning.
“DDI has a great product and platform. The HELP program significantly benefits the students and teachers who use it and we are excited to see it catching on,” said Stephen Moody, Portfolio Primary, Special Equities Program, Calvert Group Mutual Funds. “We are very impressed with the team and see every indication for continuing success.”
