CALGARY, ALBERTA — January 10, 2007 — SMART Technologies Inc. announces that SynchronEyes™ classroom management software 7.0, can now be used with any combination of desktop computers, wireless laptops or mobile devices to instruct, monitor and assess students in networked classrooms. Compatible with Microsoft´s new Windows Vista™ operating system, SynchronEyes 7.0 is a significant upgrade that builds on the award-winning features of its predecessor. With version 7.0, teachers can log on to their network and connect quickly and easily with students using mobile devices (Windows Mobile®/CE 4.2 software or later). Another feature includes the option to import existing XML quiz bank files.

SynchronEyes software 7.0 gives teachers the flexibility to guide their students in technology-enriched learning environments where a variety of computing devices may be present. Teachers can keep students focused by monitoring applications and Internet usage and can quickly survey their students and view instant results. Version 7.0 is a secure classroom management software, with 256-bit encryption (as used in online banking), which helps to keep classroom content protected. The software also authenticates teachers to ensure no one else on the wireless network can take control of a class. Teachers can "pass the chalk" to a student who then leads the lesson, which provides an open forum for collaboration and gives students a sense of ownership in their education.

"One-to-one learning in today´s 21st-century classroom is transforming the way instruction is delivered and students are educated," says Nancy Knowlton, SMART´s CEO. "SynchronEyes classroom management software 7.0 is designed to ensure teachers have the tools they need to increase professional productivity, encourage greater collaboration and enrich classroom communication."

Features

Mobile device support SynchronEyes software can be used in classrooms with any combination of wireless mobile learning devices (Windows Mobile/CE 4.2 software or later), such as PDAs, wireless PCs and other handheld devices.

Authentication and encryption–Ensures only authorized teachers manage a class and content is kept completely secure.

Block application function–Teachers can block specific software applications, including games and the Internet, for an individual student, groups or the whole class.

Broadcast media simultaneously–Teachers can broadcast video to student computers simultaneously, using common media formats, including Windows Media® player, MPEG, AVI and QuickTime® application program.

Easy on-screen thumbnail arrangement–Teachers can view desktops individually or sort thumbnails of student desktops to reflect the classroom layout or any other desired configuration. An application icon in the thumbnail view tells the teacher what each student is working on. Teachers, assistants and administrators can also monitor any number of student screens on the network, including students running dual monitors, providing a full view of student activity.

Voting and quiz statistics–Teachers can quickly survey the class with a simple vote, or they can create and distribute more complex quizzes. They can view advanced statistics of results including quiz score median, mode, range, standard deviation and the percentage of students who answered each question correctly.

Import digital quizzes–Teachers can save time by quickly and easily importing existing XML quiz bank files into SynchronEyes.
Export marks to Microsoft Excel® software–Teachers can export quiz results to Excel software for easy reporting.

Pass control to a student–Teachers can allow selected students to demonstrate a concept or example by handing over control to them during the teacher broadcast.

Enhanced wireless support–Teachers can use SynchronEyes software to monitor and control students´ work on a wireless network. Through patent-pending technology, SynchronEyes software can share screens using less than the network bandwidth of previous versions.

Import existing content–Teachers can import images and data from existing text files into the Quiz Wizard. They can now include mathematical symbols, alter fonts and colors, add bullets and change paragraph styles in their quizzes.

Automated class-list creation–Teachers can create class lists that include anyone connected to the network and can automatically add students.
