CNN.com reports that experts argue that if the United States is to remain competitive with other nations in the engineering field, it needs to find improved ways of recruiting women to the field. William Wolf, president of the National Academy of Engineering says that one reason for the lack of women in the profession is negative stereotypes–“the nerd drinking Cokes and eating Twinkies until 3 in the morning.” Wolf says that creativity is one of the most important attributes to have in the engineering field, but “somehow that’s not what high school girls are hearing about.” The United States is behind countries such as China and India in producing scientists and engineers, and Wolf believes that recruiting more women and minorities are a major part of reversing this reality…
