InfoWorld reports that Symantec will purchase Altiris, a maker of asset management software for handheld devices and other hardware. Symantec is reportedly paying $830 million for the company, and plans to merge Altiris technology into end-point security products. The purchase will give Symantec new and increased opportunities to sell compliance and management software.
