MPC Computers, a Gores Technology Group company, has announced a new notebook computer starting under $1,000 and designed primarily for educational institutions. The TransPort T1200 notebook features a choice of an Intel Pentium M or Celeron M processor and support for high-speed 802.11b/g wireless connectivity. It incorporates Intel Extreme Graphics 2 technology with up to 64 megabytes of video memory, providing optimal graphics performance, the company says. The T1200 also includes an integrated optical drive and offers both a 6-cell and 9-cell battery option. The notebook has four USB 2.0 ports, enabling users to connect to a wide variety of peripherals, and a 4-in-1 media card reader, which allows for the transfer of various media, such as a memory stick, secure digital card, or multimedia card. “Priced under $1,000 and incorporating mid-range features, the TransPort T1200 provides the ideal mobile solution for educational organizations and small businesses,” said Paul Petersen, MPC’s vice president of product marketing and development. “MPC based the design of the TransPort T1200 on feedback we received from these customers.” The TransPort T21200 computer from MPC starts at $999.
