Califone International Inc., a manufacturer of high-quality sound presentation solutions for schools, has cut the cord on its classroom headphone listening centers with its new Wireless Learning Center, the 3432IR-PLC. This multi-station solution uses infrared technology to transmit high-fidelity audio signals from up to 15 feet away, so students do not have to huddle around the cassette player or be distracted by other students in close proximity. The new wireless center also is more adaptable to larger group settings, because the technology allows for more listeners than a traditional four- or eight-student wired listening center. Additional infrared headphones can be added easily. The 3432IR-PLC is believed to be the first multi-station wireless cassette machine with standard features, Califone said, including a built-in microphone, pause and tone controls, and AC/DC operation. The wireless listening center gives schools a convenient, portable learning tool to help students build skills such as listening, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The product retails for $255.
