Holt, Rinehart and Winston (HRW) has added another course, called Teaching Mathematics to All Students Grades 6-8, to its professional development series that blends web-based and face-to-face training. In the new course, teachers are encouraged to study and apply research-based strategies proven to build student fluency in mathematics, especially for those students who are having trouble making sense of mathematics connections and algebraic thinking. Teaching Mathematic to All Students has five modules, and each module contains five lessons. As trainers implement the lessons, teachers study standards-based instruction, ongoing assessment and monitoring, organizational planning, and successful work with parents. Each module includes video segments of best classroom practices as demonstrated by master teachers. All modules are self-paced or as directed by the trainer. Trainers also can generate reports on each teacher’s progress. A single user license costs $200, but volume discounts are available.
