ENTERPRISE, Ala., Feb. 19, 2007 — The "Power of Community" essay contest, sponsored by Hill Motor Corporation, is a joint project with HBCU Connect, the mega-website promoting and connecting students, alumni and graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The essay contest is open to graduating high school seniors, undergraduate college students and graduate college students interested in addressing the importance of re-building a sense of community among Black Americans.
Applications are accepted by email, mail or by registering
with HBCUConnect.com now through June 1. The benefit of submitting responses directly on http://www.HBCUConnect.com is the ability to make changes to your essay anytime before the deadline. Your entry is confidential until the thread is open to the public for a finalist selection poll following the June 1st deadline.
"Partnering with HBCU Connect-The Foundation on this project gives us the opportunity to support what we believe is the core of leadership for the Black Community, graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. At the same time we can promote unity and a commitment to community, which, along with hard work and dedication, are the values at the core of our company," said Joyce P. Brayboy, Vice President and Partner, Hill Motor Corporation.
The commitment toward a single student won´t change the
world, not yet. However, HBCU Connect-The Foundation is matching our commitment for another scholarship winner. That´s two winners on HBCUConnect.com! Imagine many minority business owners with the same $1,000 commitment to furthering education for somebody; that´s when we start changing the world – one commitment at a time.
Winners for this essay contest will be contacted no later
than September 15, and must have proof of full-time
enrollment in a college or university in the U.S. prior to award. Winning submissions will be posted on http://www.hillmotorcorp.com.
