Schools use video gadgets in obesity fight

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that so-called “exergames” such as Dance Dance Revolution are appearing in physical education classes and gyms across the country. Fans of the genre hope that they will help activate a sedentary generation when an estimated 30 percent of American children between ages 6 and 19 are considered overweight. Laura Perdikomatis, physical education department chair at Woodside High, says that “The kids love (Dance Dance Revolution) and the game bikes. This is the first time in 11 years of teaching P.E. that I have had to kick kids out of class who don’t want to stop exercising.” However, some scientists are questioning this approach because of the lack of helpful research on the subject…
