Colgate University Deploys Netcordia´s NetMRI to Analyze its Network for Faculty, Staff, and Students in over 100 Locations

ANNAPOLIS, MD–March 06, 2007–Netcordia, a leading provider of network analysis tools, today announced that Colgate University has deployed Netcordia´s NetMRI E-400 to proactively monitor and analyze the entire network, including over 300 closet switches and 100 servers. The Colgate community, which includes all faculty, staff, and students in over 100 locations, relies heavily on the university network.

NetMRI is the only automated network diagnostic appliance that goes beyond reporting to provide analysis based on expert rules and best practices. It delivers a comprehensive, easy-to-interpret, report on the health of the network, enabling Colgate´s NSO (Network, Systems, and Operations) group to quickly and efficiently remedy any problem areas. Upon installation, NetMRI immediately discovered major network configuration issues the IT staff did not know existed, and provided tips on how to implement the solution.

Like most IT departments today, Colgate´s NSO staff has several different roles at the University, and therefore required a tool that could quickly prioritize which network issues to focus on, and how to fix these issues with minimal interpretation. Colgate chose NetMRI because it thoroughly analyzes the entire network infrastructure, yet provides results in laymen´s terms, making it easy for both experienced and new staff members to use it.

"We´re always looking for tools that make our life easier, and we tried other products with minimal success," said Jubel Caudill, Colgate´s senior network and systems administrator. "NetMRI is an intuitive, user-friendly tool that not only identifies issues, but also places these issues in relative terms to each other, and offers descriptions and ranges for the parameters. It interprets information so it´s easy to understand, even for those unfamiliar with the terms or concepts."

NetMRI scans the complete network infrastructure, analyzes the health of all the key systems-level areas, prevents problems and provides improvement–like an MRI. It has won numerous awards, and has been described by Network Computing as "the most useful network management product in five years."

"NetMRI expands the capabilities of IT teams," said Don Pyle, CEO of Netcordia. "For Colgate University, NetMRI enables them to manage configurations faster, more easily, and more efficiently with a lean technical team, while saving them valuable time and money."
