The Enemy Swim Day School in Waubay, S.D. has been named the national winner of the first Verizon Tech-Savvy Awards, and will receive $25,000 to continue and expand a program in which teachers are helping American Indian parents write and produce simple children’s books to help keep the Dakotah language alive. The teachers are also helping to close the digital gap between the generations by introducing the parents to technologies such as the internet, digital cameras, and publishing software that their children use all the time.
