Mountain Home, Ark.–April 26, 2007–Computer Automation Systems Inc., the nation´s leader in special education management systems, today announces that the Puerto Rico Department of Education will provide the company´s Special Education Automation Software (SEAS) to all K-12 public schools across the commonwealth. SEAS is currently in use in more than 2,000 school districts across the United States.
Puerto Rico, a U.S. possession since 1898 and a commonwealth since 1952, enrolls more than 575,000 students in more than 1,500 schools. The Puerto Rico Department of Education will implement the SEAS special education management system to help schools manage compliance, administration and reporting for their special needs students. The program was announced by Puerto Rico Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá at the recent opening of a special education service center in San Germán, one of six new facilities that will supplement the special education services provided in Puerto Rico schools.
The Web-based SEAS solution combines an easy-to-use teacher-designed tool that addresses the
overwhelming paperwork facing special needs staff, with a powerful reporting and compliance-based system required by administrators to demonstrate accountability. It is comprised of several modules that together allow districts of all sizes to improve their management of IEPs, forms, timeline compliance, messaging and workflow, reporting and Medicaid billing.
"While unique in many ways, the Puerto Rico school system is similar to many large, urban school districts in the United States. All face the overwhelming issues of compliance, tracking services, managing paperwork, and efficient use of resources," said Harvey Hughes, president and CEO of Computer Automation Systems Inc. "The SEAS system is ideally suited to help Puerto Rico, and any large district or state system, stay compliant with special education regulations and increase the overall effectiveness of their special education programs."
