Montclair StateUniversity today announced the receiptof $6.8 million in grants to improve the teaching of math and science in New Jersey schools. The three grants, from the National ScienceFoundation, the Prudential Foundation, and the New Jersey Department ofEducation, will underwrite three initiatives: a math and science teacherrecruitment/education program in Newark, a math and science teaching fellowshipprogram involving five northern New Jersey districts, and a program providingon-site professional development for math and science teachers in 26 schooldistricts. Together, the grants willenable Montclair Stateto work with 30 school districts in New Jersey, impacting 257 teachers and touching more than10,000 students.
