ATLANTA–June 25, 2007–Holt, Rinehart and Winston (–one of the leading publishers in secondary education–will release the new Interactive Online Edition of Holt Biology&c;2008 this week at the National Educational Computing Conference in Atlanta. Among the innovative resources included in this interactive online edition are downloadable audio readings which are a direct read of the student edition. Students can listen to their textbook in English or Spanish on their iPod® or other digital music player.

There was much interest surrounding the launch of Holt Biology in fall 2006 due to its famous authors, Dr. Rob DeSalle, curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and Dr. Mike Heithaus, well-known for his role in the National Geographic Channel?s Everyday Explorer and Critterca.. The print edition captures students? attention with its stunning magazine-style layout and this spectacular imagery has been translated into dynamic interactive visuals in the online edition. Students can also view biology concepts in action with animated tutorials illustrating processes such as diffusion and osmosis. Additional resources include highlighting, annotating, Live Ink® Reading Help, a multilingual glossary, scientific and graphing calculators, the periodic table, and a complete set of student and teacher resources highlighted at point-of-use in the chapter.

To assess whether students have mastered key biology concepts, each chapter of Holt Biology includes Standardized Test Prep, embedded quizzes, and editable tests linked to state standards. Teachers can assign assessments through a secure management site, have the assessments automatically graded, and monitor student or class progress through reports generated by the system. In addition, all resources including worksheets, lab datasheets, quizzes, and lesson plans are provided in an editable or .pdf format to give teachers the option to customize their resources.

"Customers have for years told us that our Interactive Online Editions stand out, serving as the standard by which online student materials are judged," said Allen Wheatcroft, president of Holt. "When we redesigned the Holt Biology Online Edition, we focused more intently than ever on the user experience. Our goal was to develop a next-generation online product that was not only easy to use but engaging and dynamic for both the teacher and student."

Holt Biology Online Edition is now available and can be purchased as a one-year or six-year subscription or in tandem with the bound, hardcover edition. It will be featured in Holt booth 1810 at the National Educational Computing Conference this week.
