Sebastopol, Calif. — July 18, 2007 — How word-savvy are you? Find out by participating in the first-ever Word Cup® online competition created by eSpindle Learning, a leading provider of online vocabulary and spelling tutoring, in partnership with the Oxford University Press, publisher of the Oxford English Dictionary.

The Word Cup challenge begins on International Literacy Day, Sept. 8, and concludes after International Education Week on Nov. 18. All three rounds of the competition take place online so that everyone may take part, regardless of location. Free practice quizzes also are available at www.eSpindle.org/free_quiz to help prepare for the competition.

"People commonly associate vocabulary and spelling contests with elementary or middle school students," said Rosevita Warda, president of eSpindle Learning. "The Word Cup competition is a worldwide event designed for language enthusiasts of all ages that emphasizes the power of a strong vocabulary. It also connects those who enjoy language with others who struggle with words and gives everyone a chance to have fun."

Prizes will be awarded in four age categories, with the highest-scoring contestant named as the Champion of Champions. Additional prizes will be awarded to randomly selected participants, providing all contestants with a chance to win.
Trying out for the Word Cup is free, with a registration fee required for semifinal and final participants over the age of 18. To join in the fun, contestants can visit www.wordcupcafe.org.
