Washington, D.C., July 30, 2007 — Deloitte Consulting LLP today announced that is has been awarded a contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to provide services to support the implementation of the Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS). PIMS is Pennsylvania´s statewide longitudinal education data system that will:
?Increase student achievement through improved instructional decision-making
?Ensure accurate data for accountability systems, state education reform initiatives, and No Child Left Behind reporting
?Provide the ability to track student performance from early childhood to postsecondary

"We are very excited and honored that we have been awarded this contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Education," said Philip Benowitz, Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "With this contract we will be working with the PDE to implement and integrate the primary components of PIMS — eScholar´s Complete Data Warehouse, the Cognos Business Intelligence suite of tools, and Edustructures SIFWorks® Integration Platform. In particular, Deloitte Consulting and eScholar have previously worked together with two other state departments of education and the U.S. Department of Education."

"A statewide system of this type will provide a cornerstone for improved educational decision-making in Pennsylvania" said Pat Howard, Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP.
Pennsylvania´s statewide longitudinal data system will provide answers to critical questions and challenges facing the PDE and the 733 public local education agencies in Pennsylvania, including: the impact of specific programs and services on student achievement, the relationship between course offerings and student performance, and the identification of early indicators that students will struggle in later grades or have increased risk of dropping out of school.

"We look forward to working with Deloitte Consulting on the implementation of PIMS. They share our vision for PIMS, not just as a system to maintain compliance with the requirements of No Child Left Behind, but as a tool to provide teachers and administrators with better information to improve student outcomes," said Dr. Gerald L. Zahorchak, Pennsylvania´s Secretary of Education.
