Washington, DC — The cable industry´s foundation has had a busy summer
developing new educational resources, opportunities and announcements that will
begin to roll out as teachers, families and communities prepare for the new
school year. The following list offers a snapshot of what is to come from
Cable in the Classroom (CIC) this fall:

Cable´s Leaders in Learning Awards — The cable industry´s annual awards program
for highly inventive classroom educators, administrators, community leaders,
and policymakers who are transforming education from kindergarten through high

* The 2008 Application Period opens September 12 and runs through January 16,
* A new 30-second video PSA will be available for cable systems to adapt and
air to promote the awards program and the 2008 application period
* Video coverage from the 2007 Cable´s Leaders in Learning Awards celebration
in Washington, DC is now available online and for video-on-demand (VOD)

PointSmart.ClickSafe. Event Kit — As part of the multi-media initiative,
PointSmart.ClickSafe., this event kit will be available to operators this fall
to help communities, schools and libraries plan and execute events that will
help families and children make appropriate choices while using the Internet.
The kit will include basic how-do´s, logos, sample invitations and flyers,
relevant hand-outs, talking points, presentation slides and online
communication tools.

CIC´s Key Contact Handbook — For CIC´s members — local cable operators, program
networks and allied cable companies. This handbook offers easy-to-follow, cost
effective ideas and suggestions, materials and resources that CIC members can
use to develop and maintain successful relationships with educators, parents
and community leaders. The handbook will be available in print and online.

Educational Resources from Programmers — New cable resources for educators
available this fall include:

* Discount program from the Discovery Networks and CIC. Discounts will be
available on select DVD and VHS programs from Discovery for CIC educators at
* Hallmark Channel will offer DVDs of "You´ve Got a Friend" with family and
educator support materials.
* The History Channel will coordinate with CIC on the "Take a Vet to School
Day" initiative.
