Sterling, Va. — August 20, 2007 — Anystream announced today that Fred Singer, former SVP and COO of AOL Studios and a founder of WashingtonPost.com will take the reins of their emerging education and media businesses as CEO.
Well-known for identifying high-growth business opportunities, Singer´s first move at Anystream was the acquisition of Cauldron Solutions – a deal hailed as a starting gun for the new wave of online video mergers that transformed Anystream´s media group from an encoding business to a full revenue-producing platform capable of uniting business units within a media organization.
"Fred´s strength comes from his ability to think three steps ahead of the next guy and identify a hot business ahead of the curve," said David Rosenblatt, CEO of DoubleClick.
After his roles at AOL, Singer partook in the early internet growth in Asia as an advisor to Masayoshi Son, president and CEO of Softbank Corporation; a position that provided him the privilege of working with power players from media and internet giants such as Yahoo!, Comcast, DoubleClick, and News Corporation. Additionally, he serves or has served on the boards of DoubleClick, The Motley Fool, iReit, Claria, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Queen´s School of Business, and Upper Canada College.
"What makes Fred a great leader is that he has the courage of his convictions," said AOL Vice Chairman and majority owner of Lincoln Holdings Ted Leonsis. "He´s not afraid to go against prevailing wisdom and he bets big. He has been around the space a long time and I´m always interested to see what move he will make next."
At Anystream, Mr. Singer will make promising bets across two burgeoning industries. In media, Anystream has bragging rights to over 700 multinational customers and is best known as the "guts and glue" of video for every top tier broadcaster and cable company including CNN, Scripps, Accuweather.com, MTV, and MLB.com, to name a few.
In the education market, Anystream took advantage of its experience with video to emerge as the leader in Web-based video learning solutions and lecture capture for higher education. Anystream already boasts over 160 universities worldwide. Singer knows this environment well having earned five degrees and an MBA from Harvard — an accomplishment that he jokes has "educated him beyond his intelligence."
"Anystream is the most talented company you´ve never heard about," said new CEO Fred Singer. "It´s one of the rare companies that has mastered software, hardware, and content and applied those skills to change the playing field. Combined with the vision of Anystream founders Geoff Allen and Steve Geyer, Anystream is positioned to be a major player in the Web 2.0 world where time and place will be irrelevant to accessing premium media and educational content."
