Chicago, Ill., June 27, 2007 — Colleges, libraries and schools that serve diverse ethnic populations and students of foreign languages can now meet their users´ reference needs with a single online solution: the new Global Reference Center ( from Encyclopaedia Britannica.

The site, part of the growing line of Britannica Digital Learning products, combines Britannica encyclopedias in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and French:

? Enciclopedia Universal en Español: Two Spanish encyclopedias, one for students and one for adults and college students, with over 47,000 articles and 9,100 images, maps and tables.
? Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Japan: Over 155,000 articles from the complete Britannica International Encyclopedia and 9,000 images.
? Britannica Online Korea: Includes more than 110,000 articles from the Korean version of Encyclopaedia Britannica, the Korean Britannica Book of the Year, Yonsei University´s Korean Dictionary and a world atlas. More than 19,300 images, videos and audio clips.
? Britannica Pocket Encyclopedia: 14,000 articles in Simplified Chinese with 1,600 images and 200 maps.
? Encyclopaedia Universalis: The preeminent French encyclopedia, with more than 33,000 articles, 17,000 media elements, a world atlas with over 700 maps, a dictionary and web guide.

Several editorial teams, working in the countries of origin, spearheaded the creation of these encyclopedias. Typically, a Britannica non-English encyclopedia consists of portions translated from the English-language Britannica combined with extended coverage of the local country.
