Tampa, Fla. — September 6, 2007 — In an effort to leave no child behind, students in Alachua County will experience the benefits of SMART Technologies this school year. Audio Visual Innovations (AVI), the industry leader in providing state-of-the-art audiovisual presentation, communication and collaborative solutions will integrate more than 300 whiteboards within the district as well as train Alachua County?s 2400 teachers.

In addition to the interactive whiteboards, teachers throughout the district have access to SMART Board software, which includes hundreds of standardized interactive lesson activities, more than 6,000 learning objects and links to a wide range of tutorials. SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Board software will become the basis of the district?s learning process for both students and teachers.

?We are very excited to be able to implement this technology within every Alachua school classroom,? said Uma Shankar, instructional technology supervisor for Alachua County. ?We want only the best for our students and teachers and with our parents continued support we will vigorously invest within the decision makers of tomorrow.

Research published within a European study based on the information and communication technology (ICT) report, showed that students who have been exposed to the whiteboard technology in classrooms have made significant improvements on tests that measure English, math and science. Interactive whiteboards are believed to help increase interaction between teachers and their students which increases retention and decreases boredom.

The Alachua County School district utilized grant funding and school-based resources to achieve this technological changeover for all of its 41 schools and 6 charter schools. This advanced system is expected to improve student?s literacy and analytical as well as the district?s Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) scores.

Audio Visual Innovations is not only responsible for integrating this technology, but is also conducting intense training sessions for Alachua County?s teachers.

?In order for teachers and students to fully benefit from the SMART whiteboard technology, it is very valuable for teachers to complete a half to full day session of training,? said Bob Mallory, vice president of education marketing development for Audio Visual Innovations.

Alachua County Schools will join several surrounding Florida counties that have already begun implementing whiteboards into their schools including Escambia, Hillsborough, Hendry, Highlands, Holmes, Lee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Union counties.
